I am so excited to be participating in the Slice of Life daily writing challenge! A wonderful friend invited me to participate in the challenge last year, and I had every intention of doing so. However, time got away from me. Before I knew it, March was over and my chance was gone. I've reflected on that lost opportunity to grow as a writer many times over the past year, and have wondered how I might be different now if only I had made writing a priority. Just the other day, as I traveled between buildings, I considered asking my friend if she was going to do it again this year, and if she would share the information with me. Since I NEVER text or email while driving, my mind moved on to another thought and I had forgotten all about writing by the time I reached my destination. The very next day one of my favorite Comm Arts teachers extended an invitation for me to take the challenge with her courageous 6th Grade students, and I couldn't pass it up! I couldn't believe I had been granted a second chance to grow as a writer. What's even better, is that this year many more people are taking the challenge. I'm honored to share a little bit of myself with so many people I care about, and to have them share their own lives with me! This is going to be an adventure, and I LOVE adventures. This may not seem like a big deal to everyone else, but I feel like it is for me. I've been given a few second chances in my life, and I've appreciated every single opportunity to improve. I can't wait to make the best of this experience.
What are my hopes for this trip through blog-land in March?
- I hope to share my love of all things turquoise, and maybe even convince a few of you that it is also your favorite color!
- I hope to learn and begin using at least 5 new words. Learning them is easy; it's acclimating them to my vocabulary that will be laborious.
- I hope to continue writing after the challenge ends. I've written inconsistently throughout my life, but it is something that makes me feel good, so I'd like to make it a habit. I once heard that it takes 21 days of doing something to make it a habit, but apparently that is a myth! It turns out it varies from person to person, but is more likely about 66 days. Yikes!
- I hope to make a connection with a new person by finding out something I didn't know about him/her, or had overlooked. Who's going to be my new friend? I love surprises!
- Finally, I hope to learn why Ms. Collins has a spoon under her mattress.
Happy writing!
I love your blog, and I love that you're doing this with us. The spoon secret...well, I'll let a kid answer that question for you! ;)
